Former athlete

Nearly 20 years experience with eating disorders

Lori Adams, RDN, CSSD, LD, CEDRD-S

Founder of Nutrition Fit for You.

Lori has always had a passion for food and athletics. She pursued both by earning a scholarship to play Division 1 soccer while completing her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics followed by her Dietetic Internship at St Louis University.

Over the years Lori gained experience in a variety of clinical and community settings and began her outpatient nutrition practice in 2008. In 2012 Lori returned to McCallum Place and had the opportunity to develop the Victory Program, the only program in the country designed to treat elite athletes with eating disorders. She worked alongside multiple industry leading experts and gained invaluable experience treating eating disorders in the sport culture.

Nutrition Fit for You was founded in 2017 as an outpatient practice that promotes a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach to nutrition counseling. It has since grown into a thriving practice with a team of dietitians specializing in both eating disorders and sports nutrition counseling.

As an advocate for eating disorder awareness and education, she volunteers time as the secretary for the International Association for Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) St Louis chapter, is a board member and speaker for the MO Eating Disorder Association (MOEDA), is a contributing expert to the Voice in Sport (VIS) community and is a preceptor for local dietetic internships. Lori is an iaedp Approved Supervisor and provides supervision to dietitians, specifically related to the intersect of eating disorders and sports.

Lori believes that recovery from an eating disorder is possible. There is no right or wrong way to recover and it will be a different journey for each person. She also believes that eating disorder recovery and competitive athletics can co-exist. Using Intuitive Eating principles and the HAES approach, Lori supports clients to find a balance between food & exercise, reject diet culture & body ‘ideals’ and discover self-acceptance for sustainable health and well-being.

In her spare time, Lori enjoys traveling across the country and exploring National Parks with her husband and 2 bonus kids. Living an active lifestyle, she enjoys hiking, biking, water sports and skiing. She is also a self-proclaimed foodie who loves trying new foods and cooking for friends and family.

Hear what our clients have to say

“We had previously worked with a treatment team that refused to consider anything else beyond their standard approach, which was heavy-handed and almost cruel. Landing in the Nutrition Fit for You office was like a breath of fresh air—exactly what was needed to begin making strides toward better mental and physical health. They listened to what our daughter liked and didn’t like, and made so many creative suggestions for meeting all of her nutritional needs. Our daughter was supported throughout her entire journey to recovery. Even now, our daughter enjoys checking in from time to time to ensure she’s on the right track for continued success. Our daughter’s time with Nutrition Fit for You was a true gift, and we are forever grateful.” — C&A

Food for Thought

Diet culture has created expectations about food that are unsustainable. There is no “perfect” diet—and no two individuals have the same nutritional needs.

We are a non-diet, weight-inclusive practice and embrace the Health at Every Size® approach. Weight is not a measure of “health” nor is it something you need to control. That’s why, when you work with us, we’ll focus on behaviors that are within your ability to change.

Trying to make yourself fit a societal "ideal" elicits shame and guilt—and can negatively impact both your physical and mental health.

Our team at Nutrition Fit for You will challenge black-and-white thinking and emphasize flexibility, moderation, and balance. Food is meant to nourish your body and soul—not be a source of fear and anxiety.

Feeling confused, fearful and frustrated with your relationship with food, exercise or body image? We can help.

Our non-diet, weight-inclusive approach can help you restore balance to your relationship with food, exercise and body image, either one-on-one or in small, tailored groups.

Eating disorders must be treated.

Eating disorders are insidious—and because many people are unaware of the signs and symptoms they can go undetected and untreated.

Weight stigma is harmful.

We believe in weight-inclusive care and in the Health at Every Size® approach. We celebrate body diversity and will help you take the first steps toward self-acceptance and self-compassion.

Eating Disorders recovery is possible.

You didn’t choose to have an eating disorder, but you can make the choice to begin your recovery. It’s not an easy process—but we are here to support you throughout your journey.

Body trust is achievable.

When you learn to care for your body by listening to internal cues instead of external messages, you’ll be one step closer to body acceptance and true health & well-being.

Ready to REBALANCE food, exercise, and body image?

Our commitment to you

Nutrition Fit for You welcomes all races, ethnicities, and genders.

We are a weight-inclusive practice and honor bodies of all shapes, sizes, and abilities.

We are sensitive to the fact that everyone has their own lived experience and has the right to be heard and supported through their journey.

We continue to educate ourselves and advocate for equality.

We will work closely with and collaborate with your support network and your treatment team to provide the most comprehensive care while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
